Global Amnesia

remember the pandemic?
pa-[beep][beep], ring a bell?
i still don’t understand the need to censor that word from all major platforms.

and well, it did hold the world hostage for 3 whole years.
so, i hope you haven’t forgotten about it just yet.

sure, acknowledging a mass death event is “bad vibes” for consumerism.
and sure, we shouldn’t be living in a constant state of 2020 ptsd. no one deserves that.

but i can’t help but ask the question: what changed?

how did we make sure such a global disaster won’t happen again?
who was held accountable for it?
whose negligence and incompetence cost the world those 3 years?

and we are expected to just forget it all and move on? talking about this and watching the dinner table go silent, how is that not censorship?

we learned lessons in blood and are now washing them away for what? dubai chocolate matcha labubus?

why has the world forgotten? who paid?
so many people died, who paid?
so much money lost, who paid?
so many people suffered to the point they ended themselves, who paid?
hospitals overflowing, helpless people being denied beds, who paid?
death of people being so insignificant, it won’t even show up in statistics?
WHO PAID?

yes you could ask who benefited and that might lead you to a new place altogether? but the bigger question remains, who paid?
or rather who didn’t?
who did we not hold accountable? who were we discouraged from holding accountable? and is it the same people from the first line of this paragraph?

we forget because remembering is dangerous.
if we remember, we look at the ledger.
if we remember, we ask for the receipt.
the bets are on our receding attention spans.

global amnesia isn’t a medical condition. it’s a policy. a fog designed to keep us from seeing who is holding the smoking gun.

i don’t care if this post gets flagged.
i’ll move some place else if it does.
i’m not ready to wipe the slate clean.
i’m keeping my receipts.
